2017 Week 6 Gambling Guide

The following teams are off or have no betting line:

  • Indiana (facing FCS team)
  • Rutgers (Idle)

Illinois at Iowa

Iowa -16.0, Over / Under 42

Illinois is a good team to get your offense going against.  Iowa finds a way to cover as they win by 17 but just like the Nebraska game a week ago (28-6), Illinois doesn’t help enough to go over.

Maryland at Ohio State

Ohio State -30.0, O/U 60

I think Maryland has a shot to pull the upset.  The problem for gambling is odds of outcomes.  If this game is played 10 times, a close (and most likely sloppy game by Ohio State) that allows UM to pull the upset seems likely to happen once, MAYBE twice.  The other 8 or 9 games are all big Ohio State wins.  So despite a slight chance for the stunner, I think the smart thing is to take the red hot Buckeyes.

Michigan vs Michigan State

Michigan -10.5, O/U 40.5

This rivalry game means a little bit to Michigan but it means the world for Michigan State.  Expect an extremely tight one with Sparty not necessarily winning but at least covering.

Minnesota at Purdue

Purdue -3.5, O/U 46

The last time Minnesota was a road underdog by just about 3 points they dominated Oregon State.  I think this line reflects recency bias of Minnesota struggling with Maryland.  Give me the Gophers getting back on track in West Lafayette.

Nebraska vs Wisconsin

Wisconsin -10.5, O/U 47

If (hopefully when) Wisconsin gets going again offensively they will be a scary team.  I think this is the week they do.  They win by two touchdowns in Lincoln.  Hate that over/under bet in this one.  That feels like the biggest stay away of the week.

Northwestern vs Penn State

Penn State -13.5, O/U 52

I think the road jitters are gone after surviving Iowa City and Penn State rolls.  I’ll take them to not only cover but help hit the over almost singlehandedly.  Like the Maryland game, NU can pull the upset, but the majority of outcomes are big PSU wins.
