Josh’s Week 7 Top 25

Oh the AP, how you confuse me.  A tight win at home against Illinois jumps Iowa 5 spots?  I’m a Hawkeye fan but dang that feels way too high.

Real AP Poll:

  1. Ohio State (27)
  2. Baylor (13)
  3. TCU (3)
  4. Utah (16) – I like this Utes team but after having that many takeaways to only win by one possession?  Feels a tad high.
  5. Clemson (1)
  6. LSU
  7. Michigan State
  8. Florida
  9. Texas A&M (1) – What is this voter drinking and where can I get some?
  10. Alabama
  11. Florida State
  12. Michigan
  13. Ole Miss
  14. Notre Dame – Zombie Irish have one of the stranger games upcoming in light of USC’s coach Sark going on an indefinite leave of absence.
  15. Stanford
  16. Oklahoma State
  17. Iowa
  18. UCLA
  19. Oklahoma – They take on a pesky Kansas State team (on the road no less) next so it might get worse for the up and down Sooners.
  20. Northwestern
  21. Boise State
  22. Toledo
  23. California
  24. Houston – Welcome to the party, AP.  Had this team ranked for weeks.
  25. Duke

My Top 25:

  1.  Baylor – Between health, the offense and BU’s best defense in years this looks like the team to beat.
  2. Ohio State
  3. Alabama
  4. TCU
  5. Michigan State – How much more is this chip on their shoulder going to grow?  Huge game in Ann Arbor coming up.
  6. Stanford
  7. Clemson
  8. Utah – Don’t worry Utes fans, your schedule opens up very nicely to go undefeated.  If you do that, there is no way you are out of the top 4.
  9. Notre Dame
  10. LSU – I’ve seen the Irish make a furious comeback (Clemson) and take a team’s best shot (Virginia).  Yet to see that from LSU.  We’ll know more about this club next time next week because they take on #11…
  11. Florida
  12. Texas A&M
  13. Ole Miss
  14. Florida State
  15. Michigan
  16. UCLA – They take on Stanford next so I guess my lofty ranking for the Cardinal will prove right or wrong with this highly praised Bruin team coming to the farm next.
  17. Houston
  18. Temple
  19. Boise State – Love Brett Rypien!
  20. Memphis
  21. Oklahoma State – Finally!
  22. Oklahoma
  23. Iowa – The Illinois game was in doubt until a back-up running back fumbled and allowed the lead to grow to 9 late.  That was not a polished peformance and with Drew Ott’s ACL injury, a huge piece of that defense is now gone.
  24. Northwestern
  25. Toledo

Justifiable Rage:

You moron, you had Southern Cal sixth last week.  Yup, then they lost their second straight home game and now have their coach out.

Umm, Cal?  They impressed me mightily with that gritty road game where nothing went right….but they still lost.  Toledo has not, so I gave the nod to the upstart Rockets.

Where is Duke?  North Carolina.  Well actually, I like this Blue Devil team too but they lost to Northwestern which just got waxed 38-0.  Their Georgia Tech game also looks less impressive.  They have a great shot to get in with a win at Virginia Tech and take control of their division.

League Breakdown:

5 – Big Ten, SEC

4 – Big 12

3 – American, Pac 12

2 – ACC

1 – Independent, Mid-American, Mountain West
