Ah the AP poll, where having an off week jumps you 5 places and gets you a first place votes. Sure Utah’s a good team but talk about picking a good week to stay at home. Let’s check it out:
Real AP Poll:
- Ohio State (38)
- TCU (5)
- Baylor (10)
- Michigan State
- Utah (7)
- Clemson
- LSU – How come no one is talking about the fact they let Eastern Michigan trail 30-22 going into the fourth quarter? That was not a good game.
- Alabama
- Texas A&M (1) – Hmm, AP voters are journalists so I’m guessing someone in Houston is a fan or someone in Austin is just trying to stick it to the Longhorns.
- Oklahoma
- Florida
- Florida State – Pretty sure the voters had UF jump 14 places just to annoy the ‘Noles.
- Northwestern – If NU wasn’t known as a smarty school, or a school with no fans, or in the SEC….wouldn’t NU’s resume put them about fifth in the nation?
- Ole Miss
- Notre Dame
- Stanford
- USC
- Michigan – Is killing god-awful Maryland really worth 4 spots in the polls? I mean we are talking about a Randy Edsall coached team.
- Georgia
- UCLA – The Dawgs and Bruins dropped 11 and 13 places respectively. Guess losing at home isn’t a very good battle plan for making the CFB tournament.
- Oklahoma State
- Iowa
- California
- Toledo
- Boise State – Broncos do this every year now it seems. Lose early, everyone assumes the lovable blue-field program is finally going to return to the group of five pack and then the next thing you know they are a ten win team in the Sugar Bowl and end with a top-10 ranking.
My Top 25:
- Ohio State – I don’t love doing this but I think based on the injuries at TCU and Baylor not playing anyone yet, this is still the smart team.
- Baylor – I still think they are healthier than TCU.
- Michigan State – Getting tougher to defend them but this is a Big Ten blog so I guess I’ll just remain biased?
- TCU
- Alabama
- USC – Waaaaaht? I feel like I’ll be proven right when it is all said and done.
- Stanford – Back to back beat downs, yikes.
- Clemson – Good team but not sure beating the zombie Irish at home…in a game they nearly choked…should warrant to much of a rise.
- Utah
- LSU
- Notre Dame – To have that many turnovers and look so bad for so long and still almost win, wow. Impressive defeat to say the least.
- Texas A&M – Don’t worry Aggies, plenty of time to make a climb. After all they face ‘Bama and LSU in their own division. I’m just doing a pinch of wait and see with them until they take on one of the bigger boys.
- Oklahoma
- Florida – Was Ole Miss a one game team or are they good? Is Florida a one game team or are they good? We’ll see how these two teams deal with success and failure before announcing either one dead or a contender.
- Ole Miss
- Northwestern – I’m still dubious of this team generating enough points to beat some of these clubs ahead of them.
- Florida State – Look, they lost a lot of talent the last two years and close calls against BC and Wake show that this team is poised for a let down sooner rather than later.
- Michigan
- UCLA
- Houston
- Temple
- Georgia – What a conservative game plan. Do they want to win or not lose? Because they did neither last week.
- Memphis
- Oregon
- Iowa – I’m superstitious about jinxing my Hawks but 5-0, Pitt and ISU winning as well as a road victory in Madison means I pretty much have to rank them. If I could I would put Duke or Navy or Toledo here.
Justifiable Outrage:
Okay, maybe I am tweaking Okie State fans now, but not really. They barely beat (and got help from the refs again) Kansas State. When West Virginia blows them out this Saturday, y’all see why I never did rank them.
No love for California? I like them, I’m just not sure a six point win over Washington, a six point win over Washington State and a one point win over Texas is worthy of being ranked yet. They go to Utah next so if they win, they’re in. Don’t worry Bears fans.
Toledo?!?! Don’t get me wrong, really really good team but in your heart of hearts if the Rockets played Oregon right now, who would win? As long as they keep winning, I’ll get them in.
League Breakdown:
6 – SEC
5 – Big Ten, Pac 12
3 – American, Big 12
2 – ACC
1 – Independent
