Josh’s Top 25

I have said it before and I’ll say it again…I don’t understand the AP top 25.  First of all it comes out before the season.  I like to wait at least two weeks before even considering ranking teams so that everyone has played at least one FBS school.  Second of all the wide range of reactions.  We saw it last year with Texas A&M winning at South Carolina and flying up the polls.  How did each team finish last year?  Right, unranked.  I try and not have massive leaps with teams.  The polls also award wins without looking at rosters, i.e. Notre Dame’s injury to starting QB Malik Zaire.

Real AP Poll:

  1. Ohio State
  2. Alabama
  3. TCU
  4. Michigan State
  5. Baylor
  6. USC
  7. Georgia
  8. Notre Dame – Sad story but I’m not sure a team that is now relying on their third string quarterback can be a top ten team.  We all know the story of Ohio State last year, but until I see them play some games, I’m not having ND in my top ten.
  9. Florida State
  10. UCLA
  11. Clemson
  12. Oregon – so losing on the road to a top 5 team results in dropping 5 spots?  Infuriating.
  13. LSU – Nope
  14. Georgia Tech
  15. Ole Miss
  16. Oklahoma
  17. Texas A&M
  18. Auburn
  19. BYU
  20. Arizona
  21. Utah
  22. Missouri – They beat an FCS team and Arkansas State by 7.  No.
  23. Northwestern – Haha, cute.  Let’s see them keep it up at Duke or against Michigan/Minnesota before jumping on the bandwagon.
  24. Wisconsin
  25. Oklahoma State – Because beating Central Michigan and Central Arkansas mean you are one of the 25 best teams in the nation!

Votes: Temple, West Virginia, Miss. State, Tennessee, Toledo, Kansas State, Arizona State, Boise State, Houston, NC State, Florida, Minnesota, Arkansas, Cal, Iowa, Miami (FL), Stanford, Western Kentucky, Virginia Tech, Duke

My Top 25:

  1. Ohio State
  2. Alabama
  3. TCU
  4. Michigan State
  5. Baylor
  6. USC
  7. UCLA – Compared to the teams around them (UGA, FSU, Oregon) they seem to have the most sure-thing at quarterback.
  8. Oregon
  9. Georgia – Looked good against ULM (not saying much) but sort of an up and down game at Vanderbilt.  Lots of potential with this team, I just need to see them play a complete game against a power 5 team.  We’ll know more about them when they get a struggling South Carolina team next.
  10. Florida State
  11. Clemson
  12. Notre Dame
  13. Georgia Tech
  14. Oklahoma
  15. Ole Miss – Can they please play somebody…oh, good, they are at Alabama next.  Thank you.
  16. Texas A&M
  17. Arizona
  18. BYU
  19. Utah
  20. LSU – Lucky to escape Mississippi State.  No quarterback, don’t see how they can contend for an SEC chip, let alone a national title.
  21. Houston – 2-0, won at Louisville, well coached and went to a bowl last year.  Sneaky good team.
  22. Temple – 2-0, won at Cinci, well coached and 10 sacks against Penn State!  This AAC might be a fun league to follow this year.
  23. Wisconsin – Played well for about 55% of the game against Alabama and then obliterated Miami (OH).
  24. Auburn – Ditto what I said about LSU.
  25. Tennessee – I’m sorry, I didn’t realize losing in overtime to a fellow ranked team warranted dropping out of the polls entirely.
