Week 1 Gambling Guide

The following match-ups do not have odds nor over/under bets listed:

  • Indiana vs Southern Illinois
  • Iowa vs Illinois State
  • Maryland vs Richmond
  • Rutgers vs Norfolk State

Illinois vs Kent State

UI -14.5, Over/Under 52

Ha!  In my prediction I have Illinois wining 42-10 so Vegas and I are right in sync with that over/under.  Clearly I’ll take a fired up Illini team enjoying a chance to get rid of the distractions of the Beckman firing.  I’ll have them cover and be smart with my money and avoid the O/U.

Michigan at Utah

UT -5.0, O/U 46

Well we have nothing really to go on this week so I’ll use my gut predictions from the off season which had the Utes winning 34-14.  Translation: Utes to cover and the over baby!  Let’s make some money!

Michigan State vs Western Michigan

MSU -17.5, O/U 58

Holy Over/Under, Batman!  I picked Sparty to win this 49-10 in the preview so logic dictates give me the cover and the over.  Coincidently, made a lot of money with this exact betting practice last year.

Minnesota vs TCU

TCU -16.5, O/U 57.5

I love the Gopher defense.  On the other hand, I think TCU’s defense is a little underrated.  This one might be a blow out, but even something as grizzley as 42-14 fails to get us to that lofty O/U.  I’m really confident with taking the Under.  Less so about TCU since in my preview I had them winning this game by just 17; however, we’re all degenerate gamblers so let’s go for a double-dip in this game and take the Frogs to cover.

Nebraska vs BYU

NU -5, O/U 60

Hmm, I have BYU winning and the total at 59 (31-28).  Generally speaking, opening games tend to be a little lower scoring due to the sloppiness of the offenses.  Still like the Cougs so give me points and under.

Northwestern vs Stanford

Stan -12, O/U 47.5

Does that over seem high to you?  It feels high to me.  Cardinal are known for their physical defense and plodding offense.  NU’s offense looks to be terrible this year so you can’t expect too many points from them.  I like Stanford to win, but I only had it 28-17 in my preview.  I love the under and will begrudgingly take the Cats and the points.

Ohio State at Virginia Tech

OSU -14, O/U 52.5

Well I have OSU scoring 42 points so that over is already under threat.  I have Tech’s schizophrenic offense mustering 17 points.  Translation, Bucks cover and that over is toast.  Hang on sloopy!

Penn State at Temple

PSU -7, O/U 41.5

I hate cliche things like lock of the week but PSU is going to blow this Temple team out of the water, mark my words.  Lions cover easily and that surprisingly low O/U gets covered – barely – thanks to PSU racking up some points.

Purdue at Marshall

UM -7.5, O/U 63

Another over that looks much too high for me.  Purdue’s offense was all over the map last year and Marshall’s outstanding quarterback Rakeem Cato graduated.  I think Marshall wins but by only a touchdown.  Points and under.

Wisconsin vs Alabama (Dallas, TX)

UA -12, O/U 49.5

50 points?  Is Vegas mental?  Both teams are going to run the ball so much this game will be played with a rolling clock.  Factor in ‘Bama’s scary d front and the Badger’s underrated defense I’m expecting a low, low scoring game.  Originally I said 24-17.  I like that.  Give me points and the under and as a fan, by god I’d love to see the Badgers pull the upset.
